...but when I hear the sound of cheers and see the rows of smiling faces...

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

When a child steps on stage to perform and the audience applauds,

something happens…a spark is ignited within that child.

Be it just for fun or for the serious student and aspiring performer, every child should have the opportunity to experience the

American-born art form of musical theatre.

Musical Theatre is an ever-growing collaborative art form combining acting, singing, and dancing resulting in cultural enrichment and entertainment for all.

Certainly, providing musical theatre training to the talented youth in Adams County will enrich the lives of the individual students

and the artistic culture of our community as well.

OUR MISSION & VISION

Mission Statement – To inspire creativity and confidence, provide cultural enrichment, and instill a love of the theatre arts in young people through quality education, training, and performing experiences in the art of musical theatre.

Vision Statement – To provide a fostering environment to train a

well-rounded young theatre artist to succeed in all aspects of the discipline while enriching the region’s artistic culture.

Our History

Adams County School of Musical Theatre first opened its doors on February 2, 2009 at their theatre located at 49 York Street within the first block of Lincoln Square in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. ACSMT immediately named Chad-Alan Carr as their Founding Executive/Artistic Director.

• Our class rosters and school statistics show that our students thoroughly enjoy our program. Not only have many of our students returned each semester, but they also enrolled in additional classes. We currently enroll students ages 4 to 18 and our students come to us from Gettysburg, Biglerville, Hanover, New Oxford, Littlestown, Fairfield, Aspers,

McSherrystown, and York Springs.

Our first season ended in December 2009 with the production of six full-length musicals: Disney’s High School Musical 2, Disney’s Sleeping Beauty kids, Seussical Jr.,

School House Rock Live Jr., Disney’s Beauty And The Beast Jr., and Santa’s Winter Wonderland. We also presented our premiere benefit concert “Any Dream Will Do”

featuring Wayne Hill and Kathleen Sasnett, our “Kids Spring Fling Musical Thing”, four mini-musical summer camp showcases, in addition to several extra performances throughout the community.

We have been able to house and perform our productions in our very own, 100 seat theatre. This gives the students the unique and valuable opportunity to rehearse and perform on their very own stage at all times. It also provides the audience with a very personal and intimate theatrical experience as they are so close to the stage.

Our entire student body of our premiere semester performed at the Gettysburg Festival 2009 and received many accolades. We also had several students that were

selected to perform at the Gettysburg College Kline Theatre in the world premiere production of the musical Helen And Teacher . Additionally, several more of our students were selected to perform in the Music, Gettysburg! production of Amahl And The Night Visitors at the historic Majestic Theatre in downtown Gettysburg.

We have been able to add to our professional faculty in order to enhance our curriculum and increase educational and performing opportunities for our students.

Our Program

The Adams County School of Musical Theatre operates a musical theatre studio offering year round instruction and performing opportunities to youth ages 4 to 18.

All of our classes/productions are taught and directed by experienced, qualified instructors with Bachelor's degrees or Master's degress or PhD in Theatre, Music, or Musical Theatre, as well as professional artists from the musical theatre and dance industry.

We currently offer classes in musical theatre, voice, acting, and creative musical arts.  We accept students ages 4 to 18 and ALL of our  students are cast in our productions.  Spring and Fall semesters culminate with at least two musical productions each semester. Summer day camp students can perform in our summer musicals, as well as weekly camp showcase performances. Open auditions are held before each semester. No previous experience is required.

Our musical theatre production classes combine elements of  acting, singing, and dancing taught in a fostering environment which results in a FUN and rewarding experience for all.  During musical theatre classes, students learn and rehearse choreographed musical  numbers from our musical productions.

We now have a special course for students ages 4-7 called Creative Musical Arts, which combines singing, movement, rhythm instruments, reading, puppetry and arts and crafts in a supportive, nurturing, and safe environment. These students will also be in our productions.

We encourage students to enroll in a variety of classes and take advantage of our additional workshops and master classes as well.  More classes equal more stage time in our productions.  Bring a friend along to join you in class and perform in a show together!
